The name of Jishan Hall comes from “Zhou Yi-Kun-Wen Yan”: A virtuous family can enjoy long prosperity for generations. An evil family will have endless disasters”, suggesting, again, that descendants benefit from the virtue and good deeds of their ancestors.
According to the records, Jishan hall was also built by Wu Xilian (1796-1861,courtesy name Zhenxing, self-titled Guoli, the 32nd generation of the Wu family.), the 32nd generation of the Wu family. Taken together with Yuqing hall and Rixin hall it is called “Santai Jiumentang” (three mansions with nine halls). The hall faces the south with its back to the north. The foyer and Xiangfang on the left and right are all two-storey and three rooms wide, occupying an area of 1,650.92 square meters. The name plaque for “Jishan Hall” is hung on the grille in front of the hall. On the axis are, in turn, the main gate, the foyer, the patio, principal hall, and the small back patio. There is a small door for people to enter and leave the house, on the east-west axis of the main gate. Normally, the main gate is closed, except for weddings, funerals, and other important events, or when distinguished guests come to visit. The gate leads directly into the patio. On both sides of the foyer are living rooms. The room on the east is respected. It is the same with the principal hall. The Xiangfang on the east and west of the patio are 3 rooms wide. The room in the middle is called the secondary principal hall. Rooms on both side of secondary principal hall are called primary and secondary rooms.
